Anyone
who faces the artistic universe of Giampaolo Ghisetti can not fail to
recognize the absolute technical mastery of an author who always
fascinates the multi-facetedness and eclecticism of a do not know
limities and boundaries. Equipped with a truly singular chromatic
wisdom, I dare say innate for the happy intuitions associated with
harmony and tonal orchestration, Giampaolo Ghisetti now documents in
a full volume a creative and creative lightning path, mostly
represented by pictorial and sculptural production.
Having been a
decorator of glasses for a long time, having reproduced, from an
early age, masterpieces of the past with enviable acrobatics and
expertise, has contributed little to refine the eye, hand and spirit
towards the conquest of profoundly authentic expression territories.
Slightly prone to travel and travel, it has made Murano Island, not
only the place of residence and life, but a perimeter within which to
project images and memories, sensations and reflections.
Each
painting is a narration of the self through the symbolic iconography
of presences that constitute true soul simulations, maps of a spirit
tended to identify with simple and recognizable forms. Burano's homes
wrapped in silence or light in the morning, the channels mostly
inhabited by reflections rather than boats, retain that metaphysical,
eclectic and melancholic awe that the rich criticism of the master
has frequently exalted. Giampaolo Ghisetti has accustomed us over
time to a vast array of subjects that cover all the great themes of
art history: alongside landscapes, there are also the exquisite
Flemish-inspired nature of life, self-portraits of enviable
psychological introspection and physiognomic investigation, the genre
scenes in which the celebrated actors of the art comedy appear, such
as the harlequins or the pulcinella. Each image is the sequence of
signs and signs that the line makes perfect and clean, immature in
the plasticity of the sought-after forms, never abandoned to the
case, perpetually stretched between an ideal and empirical
reconstruction, as if the artist always sought adherence between
phenomenon and essence, between the being of the thing in itself and
its manifestation.
I believe that the tenacious and constant
workout in front of the works of the past masters has led to such a
need for perfection and study to be rigorous for every final outcome,
endured by any uncertainty, doubt or debunking. Even in the surreal
and almost fantastical representations of enchanted forests, full of
fairy trees with massive trunks and shiny branches, we read the same
definition, the same coloristic elaboration that lets the light and
superimposed veils, the multiple, the cultured, the chiaroscuro and
the tonal traps . These woods are fabrics of unannounced presence and
inaccessible secrets, capable of feeding mysteries and interpretative
hypotheses behind the absolute of an invisible that sometimes becomes
"palpable."
Giampaolo Ghisetti's freedom to draw from
the high and pure quotation linked to a certain fifteenth-century
compositional geometry is remarkable, and at the same time, with an
impetus and determination, he is able to look at contemporary
solutions. It is attested by the works dominated by a cubist facet,
by a kaleidoscopic shattering of shapes, to which is not far the echo
of the polychrome stained glass windows of northern and Byzantine
ascendancy or the gold of the Gothic-Venetian polyptych.
In our
author there is an ancient and present continuum of aulic memory and
popular affection: high and low penetrate into a mix of enthusiastic
participation and sharing. The pictorial journey unfolds like a film
film in which every frame (frame) is the memory of a vision, is the
crystallization of a spark of life lived or tasted through memory.
The canvas is the space of every occurrence, it is the
materialization of a thought that is constructed first and foremost
for images. What about the miraculous glass sculptures "Crucifixion"
and "Osanna" in 2006? Here the three-dimensionality
accentuates the grip of the representation that humanizes the sacred
through the immediacy of movement and dynamism. In the recent
sculptural group of molten glass, curved and rounded up by the title
"Evolution" of 2015, the artist with irony and sarcasm
denudes the protagonists to highlight the tattooed skin, emblem of
controversial modernity and thus giving us an extraordinary
decorative song, worthy of medieval miniature codes. The rendering of
the anatomical details is the same as we encounter in the many
paintings that center the figure (just mention "Last Supper"
of 2010) and this allows us to appreciate the incredible technical
agility that does not know cesure, like the artist Renaissance that
experimented within the shop with any means expressive in the
conviction that creative urgency bends and governs every matter.
If
we look at certain landscapes protected by tree shades and misty
volumes of austere and shrunken houses, we may feel a sense of
restlessness and detachment powered by vivid, sharp metallic lights,
in front of the sweet motherhood that appears in "L'Amore "Of
2017, we are overcome by a feeling of open serenity and magical
welcome. The rhythm of life with its systoles and diastoles, with
pauses and restarts, full and voids, darkness and light, follows and
accompanies Giampaolo Ghisetti on an artistic path in which the
purity and truth of gesture joins a rare awareness of spirit and
matter. In the multiplicity of its accomplishments, it is the ransom
of a legacy that the ever-lost forms of the world attest to with a
widespread sentiment of beauty and infallible
euritmia.
